Volunteer Free Time Activities
Because Hutan subur is located in the mountains near Gunung Leuser National Park, known for its Sumatran Orangutan population, during your free time on weekends, our team can take you to the beautiful places around Bukit Lawang and Hutan Subur. If you stay longer, you can explore Sumatra and Indonesia with our partners, Sumatra Adventure Holidays.
We can organize day trips to Bukit Lawang, Batu Katak, and Tangkahan on weekends or after you finish your volunteering placement. We can also arrange for you to visit Lake Toba and Berastagi (known for its volcanoes) after you complete your volunteering placement. If you want more details about additional activities, click on the link in the menu above.
The adventure activities available include orangutan and jungle trekking for half-day up to six days. You will camp in the wilderness and see various animals like macaques, Thomas leaf monkeys, gibbons, monitor lizards, and Sumatran peacocks. We also offer elephant washing, hot springs, waterfall day trips, and tubing. For cultural experiences, we can take you to visit the local rubber fruit and vegetable market, explore rural villages, and participate in informal Indonesian cooking classes where you can learn from the locals. All tours and activities are arranged by local guides at reasonable volunteer prices.
You can pay for the additional activities through bank transfer or cash payment at the project site. Please discuss payment options with CareSumatra during the application process.
